Marilyn Leavitt-Imblum's designs are loved by all. And although one person could never stitch all of them, there is a great desire to posses everyone.
I believe this is not just because they are primarily composed of full stitches, with few 1/4 stitches and very little backstitching, but more so because of Marilyn's emphasis to fine detail. The flowing gowns of her Angels & Victorian ladies, the delicate faces, and fabulous use of colour, makes every one of her designs a winner. As Marilyn states " because of the many blessings this work (designing cross-stitch) has given me, I feel an obligation to make each design better than the last. When I design, I am still a stitcher. There is a magic that happens, a peace that is like a thread running through the forest and I follow is with my heart."

* Although Marilyn intended her designs to be cross-stitched, they look fabulous stitched in petit point on silk gauze. To petit point use the Continental or Tent stitch - stitch all the full stitches first, then replace the 1/4 stitches with either a full stitch or omit it all together. Backstitch with one strand, and in some cases you may have to substitute the beads with petite beads.

When Marilyn moved to the country with her family she lived in an old Victorian relic near Amish farms. "All her days were spent quilting, gardening, painting and cross stitching. The Amish family across the road became their dearest friends. It was through this friendship Marilyn was shown a glimpse into their extraordinary lives", and it is through her designs she has permitted all of us to share in her interpretations of the Amish family values, their celebrations, their spirit and joys in life, and the things dearest to their hearts. |
