With the increase of computer-generated charts on the market, there is also an increased concern with regard to such charts.

I feel the greatest confusion is the terminology.  “Computer generated” - what exactly does this mean.  In my opinion Computer generated designs are images scanned into the computer and then filtered through a charting program.  “Computer printed” charts are charts that have been hand designed and then input into a program for printing purposes only.

But nothing is black and white and there are differences between the companies that create computer-generated designs.

I cannot speak for all of them but by working in a stitching shop I can tell you some of the things you should be looking for when purchasing such designs.  The most important difference you should be looking for is – is the photo on the cover a picture of the original artwork or of the actual stitched model.  Speaking as a stitcher with little time for actual stitching, I want to see how the design will look before I dedicate months of work into a piece only to discover that the stitched work does not look like the leaflet cover.

With regards to our own line of computer generated charts, “Timeless Designs”, I can assure you that the photo on the cover is the stitched model and that it is not simply scanned through a program.  Once scanned, colours are changed, eliminated and combined, images and faces are shaped, and the chart is not released until after the model is stitched.
